The Daily Swarm - Download: Danger Mouse's 'The Grey Album' Remastered...

As I recall the original release was of pretty dodgy quality. Interesting to see if it's been cleaned up at all, and what their definition of 'remastered' is exactly.

The Darcys cover Steely Dan

Toronto band the Darcys recently released a full album cover version of Steely Dan's classic Aja.

This release works as a great stealth promo for the band's self-titled album, which you can also conveniently grab at their website for free.

"Peg" isn't quite the same without Michael McDonald. But hey, you can't argue with free music, right?

For me the original is untouchable, an absolutely exquisite piece of songcraft and studio excellence. However - that's clearly not what the Darcys are going for. It feels more like a deconstruction, but I'm not entirely sure it succeeds. My bias might be getting the better of me here. What do you think?

New Weeknd mixtape

Already! The first one, released earlier this year, is easily on my top albums of the year so far. Supposedly there's a third on the way. The Prince comparisons will probably not slow down if he keeps up this pace of output.

Here are a few mp3 blogs that I follow

Most of these I've discovered pretty recently.  A couple aren't strictly 'mp3' blogs but do supply an interesting stream of music in other formats.

Deleted Scens, Forgotten Dreams (ambient, drone)
Did Y'all Hear That? (electronic, dubstep, techno)
Joy Division Bootlegs (JD and New Order bootlegs)
Potholes In My Blog (electronic, hip hop - thx Angry Robot)
The Unheard Music (rock, pop, lots of Prince, everything else)
we like it lossless! (electronic, ambient, all .flac or .wav)

Joy Division - New Order bootlegs

This site came up in my Google Reader. Most of the bootlegs appear to be in .flac format... almost too much to take in all at once.

Pop Matters' best free albums of the year

Go for it! Why not? They're free!

#1 comes highly recommended by Mr. Angry Robot (this blog agrees)

Season's Greetings from Can

Free holiday music from the German rock pioneers, Can.

Free stuff

Music from Carl Sagan's Ghost

I just saw this post on Synthopia... just downloading the music now, but with an artist name like that, who could go wrong?
