Queens of the Stone Age live stream

From last night, here's an entire 2-hour show where they play their new album plus more in LA...

A sort of Coachella 2013 review

I spent a good portion of Friday and Saturday night with the Coachella stream on one screen and the Jays game on another.

Lots of surprises on the weekend - I was blown away by the sets from Blur and Hot Chip, and disappointed with Japandroids and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who seemed to be unable to stay in key throughout their sets. It could have been the fact that the stream highlighted and magnified the deficiencies in the performance... being in the audience might have made it much more enjoyable.

I'd assume that they're streaming it again next weekend, but I have no idea. I'd watch it again, for sure. Looks like it's the same set and running order except Blur and the Stone Roses are swapped on Friday night.

Also, thanks to Ian for reminding me that the stream was happening.

NXNE announcements

The first bunch of bands have been announced for NXNE in June.

I'm more partial to the smaller venues and bands, but if The National and their dozy pop-rock are the biggest act of the year I've either underestimated their popularity or this looks to be a down year. Who exactly are the rest of those bands?

Tonight: Getting our smooth on with the Dukes of September

Dukes of September Rhythm Revue at the Ampitheatre tonight. Hopefully the rain stays away for clear sailing on the seas of smooth.

The setlists are looking pretty sweet too.

Not looking forward to the $15 beers, however...

Cheap ticket alert - Molson Amphitheatre

A co-worker sent out this link for super cheap concert tickets at the Amphitheatre this summer. Blue Rodeo and Dukes of September look like good bets.

Heck, Nickelback wouldn't be that bad... right? $11? Come on...

Tool concert - January

Landed some Tool tickets today... they're one of my favourite all time bands, and the thought of getting a new album this year practically gives me shivers.

Prince concert tonight

Not much to say, but apparently last night's show went over three hours! There's not much to link to on the web in terms of Prince's music, so here's one of his best known songs... enjoy it while the video is still up:

Where to find good concerts in Toronto

When looking up concert listings, I usually check a few places:
First, I'll check Rotate This. They have tickets that cover a wide range of events, but don't expect to find the Madonna concert there. Listings are in chronological order.

I also check Soundscapes. Their listings are by artist name, so that's helpful.

A while ago I came across a site that aggregated a bunch of Toronto concert listings, but I can't seem to find the link anywhere, and web searches have been fruitless.

Of course if you really want those Madonna tickets, you can always check with the evil empire.

Devo - Live tonight!

Devo's live at Yonge-Dundas square for a free show tonight as part of NXNE... I may pass on this but then again it may be too tempting to pass up.  It's going to be pretty insane there, and there isn't exactly any bar service in a public square.  Improvisation may be in order.

Here's one of their most recent videos, featuring their typical camp:

Their Complete Truth About De-Evolution DVD is a pretty awesome watch if you're into video art and early music videos... they practically created the genre.
