Evil Empire turns 20

One of the most important albums of my formative years turns twenty. Great retrospective piece.

Now Magazine's Top 50 Toronto albums of all time

The 50 Best Toronto Albums Ever

A lot of odd choices, but the main takeaway is that it was likely someone under 30 who had final say on the list. No other way to explain why Austra is even on here. I like them just fine but putting them in the top 50 doesn't make any sense.

The Top 10 is decent... but putting The Weeknd and Rush back to back on any list doesn't feel right, as great as those albums are. We need waiting periods for albums before they are dubbed 'best-something-of-all-time', sort of like the five year period after baseball players retire until they can be elected to the Hall of Fame.

Nice linkbait on the mag's part though. Some interesting conversations happening in the comments too.

Pitchfork's People's List

Great web presentation over at Pitchfork. Lots of infographics and colours. Definitely some music nerd info-porn here.

I smell an iTunes playlist!

LCD Soundsystem: London Session

I just listened to the 'live studio bootleg' from LCD Soundsystem, London Sessions... the whole thing is killer, but take a listen to this track.

They actually carry a copy of this at the Toronto Public Library. Now this is a gravy train I can get behind. And don't feel guilty about putting it on hold for pickup at your local branch. Here's the thing: you've already paid for it.

And it is definitely worth it.

Great Bowie album, or Greatest?

It's a close, four way tie between Ziggy Stardust, Low, and "Heroes", and Station to Station.

Caught myself singing this in the shower this morning. It's a great way to start your day, I highly recommend it.

TV on the Radio tomorrow night

No NIN finale tour for me, out with the old in with the new, I say. Besides, I heard NIN is opening for Jane's Addiction. I'm all for supporting your influences, like Reznor did with Bowie back in the 90s, but this is a little ridiculous.

Here's TV on the Radio's "Dear Science,", which I think will go down as one of the great albums of this decade.

I wonder what the rest of the title could be. The album could easily be titled "Dear Science, I love you, but you're bringing me down". A positive work overall, really putting together everything they've been refining over the past couple albums.
