Arcade Fire - Here Comes the Night

Awesome tv special that aired after SNL two Saturdays ago. This album is going to be great. The band is in full Talking Heads mode at points during these songs

Subdivisions - Rush (Official Video)

A bit more CanCon for Canada Day. I have it on prrretty good authority that "the voice" on this cut is *not* Mark Dailey, but, ya know... it was like, the 80s, man, so... who knows?

Queens of the Stone Age live stream

From last night, here's an entire 2-hour show where they play their new album plus more in LA...

Chicago's "25 Or 6 To 4" Isolated Parts

via Bobby Owsinski... check out his deconstruction as well.

I love hearing isolated parts from mixes, especially from classic songs. Less editing going on, less retakes, more organic sound.

Nine Inch Nails on Hard Copy

My brother points me to this clip from Hard Copy, where NIN and Trent Reznor are involved in "The Case of the Mysterious Video Tape". I'm guessing it's from around 1992 since we hear "Suck" from Broken around 3:14 into the piece.

Jeff poses the question - "Are happenings like this still possible?" - I'd say if this type of event happened today it certainly wouldn't warrant 10 minutes on a major tv program, maybe five seconds of most people skimming over a link.

I love these long lost artist mythology-building pieces. Neither this show nor NIN were on my radar at the time, but now it's fascinating to look back and see how the mainstream media at the time handled one of my now-favourite artists.

How Indie Finally OFFICIALLY Died: The Broken Indie Machine. | Hipster Runoff

Awesome takedown/polemic/rant/whatever on the state of music on the Internet in 2012. The best post from HRO in a while, and surprisingly un-ironic for the most part. Definitely says a lot of things that have been on my mind and the minds of many music fans as well. Worth the long read.

our buzz harvest has gone bad, and now is the Winter of Our Buzz Content.

Reggie Watts - Watch/Listen and learn

Unbelievable. A true 21st century artist. I first heard about this guy on Radiolab a while back. Thanks to my friend Jim for posting this on Facebook. Find yourself 15 minutes and enjoy. The guy's a force of nature.

LCD Soundsystem: London Session

I just listened to the 'live studio bootleg' from LCD Soundsystem, London Sessions... the whole thing is killer, but take a listen to this track.

They actually carry a copy of this at the Toronto Public Library. Now this is a gravy train I can get behind. And don't feel guilty about putting it on hold for pickup at your local branch. Here's the thing: you've already paid for it.

And it is definitely worth it.

The Doors sing the Reading Rainbow theme

Update: Apparently this video is no longer available so... Use the Googles, amirite?

Jimmy Fallon's got quite the career going with his music legend impersonations... this is great:

I really got into the Doors this past summer when I read Ray Manzarek's book, and I listened to most of their albums for the first time. I definitely got a new appreciation for the band and their music after that experience. They were a band I had a hard time taking seriously before, most likely because of their association with classic rock radio, and being played ad nauseum... but these guys were true art rockers, and were really immersed in the counter culture of the time. The group's name comes from opening 'the doors of perception', and one way to do that was by taking LSD.

So to see the above video, and the juxtaposition of a group whose musical journey was toward higher levels of consciousness, and the theme song for a children's show that did a bit of consciousness raising in its own way, is nothing short of brilliant.

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo viral campaign

Kind of like the alternate reality game done by NIN for Year Zero... one of the pictures was found right near where I work, which is kinda spooky/cool.

New Weeknd mixtape

Already! The first one, released earlier this year, is easily on my top albums of the year so far. Supposedly there's a third on the way. The Prince comparisons will probably not slow down if he keeps up this pace of output.
