I was searching YouTube for classical music and came across this gem:
I'm not one of the 8 million people who've seen this one before... glad I saw it though.
Kinda reminds me of this one:
I might send a link to this post to the guys drawing up Canada's new copyright laws.

Hipster Runoff responds to G20 madness
Does n e 1 know what G20 protesters are even protesting? Seems like they just want to make .jpg internet memes
Love it. Not sure if I should file this under humour... I might make a new tag for 'irony' though.

Saigon Sunday: Protest edition
Now, here's a peaceful Toronto protest... I love seeing the city in retro form.
A couple years ago at Canadian Music Week, I was sitting in a seminar at the Royal York (I think it was the Tony Wilson interview), and the lead singer of the Parachute Club sat down right next to me. Kind of a cool experience. I wanted to talk to her, but I didn't really know what to say and besides, the great Tony Wilson was up on stage.

Hard to believe it was just one year ago today...
...when twitter blew up in response to Farah Fawcett's death.
In remembrance, here's a couple Michael Jackson links:

I went to add myself at blogged.com but apparently I was already there. My reputation precedes me.

Song in the Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer
My friend Adam told me to check out the new Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer, as he was pretty sure it was Tool playing in the background. He was close. Oh so close. The song is actually a remix of an A Perfect Circle song "The Outsider" by Danny Lohner.
The track definitely sounds like the aesthetic of Tool or even NIN, and it's off of aMotion, a DVD/CD combo where the CD has a bunch of cool remixes.
It's interesting to me that there's something about the music of bands that cut their teeth in the hard rock scene of the 90s that works so well with testosterone driven cinema. It could be that the kids (like myself) that grew up listening to that music are now creating/consuming these films. Ahh, the circle of life.
Here's thevideo game movie trailer:
Also of note is that APC and Tool will *hopefully* be coming out with new material soon. Both bands usually take their time in crafting releases, so I say: take your time boys. It's always worth it.

Saigon Sunday
Peter Murphy perfects his Bowie impression in this 1990 track. Reached #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock tracks chart in February of that year. I like the album cut better, but this works too.

Still not too late for the decade in review
While browsing Hipster Runoff, I came across a post that stands as their best of the decade. Quality read. Take a lunch break.

So that's it for FM radio
I've been meaning to post about this for a little while, cause I'm pissed.
Toronto's Edge 102 has replaced their only show worth listening to, Saigon Sunday aka Retro Sundays aka the only reason I have 102.1 still programmed on my radio presets, with a fucking Dr. Drew show. A part of me is officially dead inside.
Of course the show hasn't been the same since the late great Martin Streek (RIP), a guy who always had time to chat at the venues and had an inspiring passion and knowledge for music. I'll always remember the days at the old 'Joe' club (now home to CHUM radio), tearing up the dance floor and not always leaving the place under my own power.
The show was basically alternative 'club-type music' aka upbeat, rockin', danceable tunes, from 1976-1993 (the last couple years they pushed it to 98-99) The radio broadcast would go from 9-2 on Sunday nights while the doors to the actual club would open at 10 and wouldn't shut down to nearly 3 on some nights.
As for the tunes, luckily for me (and for you) I've been compiling the playlist to end all Saigon Sunday playlists over the last four years, and I have decided I will officially take up the torch of keeping the 'spirit' of that music alive. I intend to make it a point to post songs and videos on Sundays, and I have thoughts of eventually doing it in podcast form. Wouldn't that be sweet.
So here it is, a nice big first installment of Saigon Sunday (yah yah, on a Tuesday):

Drummer at the wrong gig
Oh geez. Hopefully there's a big rock band out there somewhere desperately in need of a Keith Moon type drummer. This guy needs a new gig.

For fans of websites with doses of irony
I added 'Hipster Runoff' to my RSS feeds a couple weeks ago after seeing links posted on the Daily Swarm for a while. After reading a few posts I gotta say I'm taking quite a liking to the site. It can be humourous and thought-provoking at the same time.

Correction: It's about her in 1985, clearly the video is not from 1985.
