Make a website look like it was done by me in 1996

The Geocities-izer

90s-tastic hilarity. Some pages turn out funnier than others... but all the touches are there. The Bill Gates devil-head, the spinning GIFs... the 'Made by Notepad' logos...

So much good stuff right now...

I haven't had much time to post lately as I've been taking in all this great new music coming out these days... here's a few tracks that have caught my attention lately:

Every pop song ever

A lot of these are Aussie bands, there were a few I've never heard... very well done.

From the conspiracy file

Check out this article titled "Transhumanism, PsyWar and B.E.P.’s “Imma Be”" for an analysis on the link between the new Black Eyed Peas video and mind control. Grab a tea and settle in for a read. This one's not a skimmer.

I'm having a tough time deciding whether the author is serious or not, but a lot of the images are spookily consistent with New World Order agendas and so forth.

Check out the articles about Lady Gaga on the site and then try to tell me this guy's got it all wrong...

Violence is one of the most fun things to watch...

Audio-visual genius Mr. Angry Robot just posted a promo he produced for the nation's imagination station. Brilliant stuff! The audio mix is pretty good too... *ahem*

Thoughts on sonic stew

The “Rule Of Thirds” applied to mixing

Interesting discussion here... there doesn't seem to be any definite playbook for mixing audio, but this idea sets a useful template.

A couple scathing reviews of the iPad

Why I won't buy an iPad (and think you shouldn't, either) [boing boing]

The future of music production

There are so many things that could go wrong with this, but if it actually does get off the ground, it could be pretty awesome:

The main problems would be:
-User base. You would need talented people on board to get talented people on board. Simple catch-22
-Quality. Even the most talented musicians could have the worst recording setup. And vice versa. You could have a decked out studio but have the worst ideas of all time.
-Novelty factor. People have thought of this before, but it hasn't really penetrated the general consciousness. Nothing will ever beat a group of musicians playing music together live.

It's a great way to build ideas and tracks, collaborate across vast distances and connect with people on a new level, but I get the feeling that these technologies are more of a building block to something bigger rather than an end result unto itself.

Spoon: concert review

I'm glad someone else wrote a review of Spoon's recent show at the Sound Academy... I've been meaning to do it for a few days. In regards to the above review, Spoon was better than Deerhunter, imho. I'm definitely more familiar with the former.

I'll get a few points in:
-Great setlist, despite the fact it was missing "I Turn My Camera On"
-The numbers from Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga with horns on the record really could have used horns live. It sounded really thin and the keyboard alone didn't have the fullness I would have liked.
-Holy crap, the drummer, Jim Eno (no relation) is a freaking robot. Mechanical and precise and nary a fill to be heard.
-Very cool stage setup, kinda minimal yet poignant like much of the band's music.
-What's up with Sound Academy shaking down people like it's the US Embassy? I think they've had trouble in the past with ne'er do wells. Perhaps people feel like they need to pack extra goods for the long trek down the venue.
-They definitely need a strip of bars/pubs in that area, seems like there's lots of open land... the place feels so isolated.
-Awesome weather, nice night for a show. As always, great view of the city skyline. If you're heading down to the venue for a concert, turn your camera on.

Orson the seducer

After a very relaxing and enjoyable long weekend, I'm back to the blog... here's a clip of Orson Welles on Dinah Shore's show talking about audiences:
